History

Peacocks Penny Bazaar

Peacocks was founded in Warrington in 1884 as a family run business. In true Victorian style Peacocks Penny Bazaar, as it was then known, sold anything and everything.
Over the years Peacocks Penny Bazaar expanded, opened more stores and the ranges available changed to keep up with the times. It was kept a family business being handed down from father to son through generations of the Peacocks family.

Relocation and Expansion

In the 1940s the company relocated to Cardiff, where its headquarters remain. This move had a profound effect on the development of the group; its growing network was concentrated in South Wales and Southern England for many years. In the early 1990s Peacocks grew further and in December 1999 the firm was floated on the London Stock Exchange. The company delisted from the exchange on 1 February, 2006, again becoming privately owned.
In line with the increased demand for value-for-money fashion Peacocks has begun to provide high fashion womenswear, menswear and childrenswear. High street stores have been revamped together with a steer towards prime locations. Recently Peacocks chose to take a step into the unknown and made their womenswear range available online.

The Store Today

Local and High Street Stores

Traditionally thought of as a low cost local store Peacocks has many small stores offering everyday essential items. These essentials stores are favoured amongst the older generations who have been shopping at Peacocks for many years. However, today Peacocks has moved towards value-for-money, quality fashion. It has begun to open bigger high fashion stores with fashion-led decor in prime high street locations. These stores are popular amongst the younger generations providing key fashion pieces and value prices. This combination of smaller local stores and large high street stores allows Peacocks to provide clothing for all their loyal customers regardless of age.
